BESCHREIBUNG

The "Maison du Parc naturel régional des Alpilles" is made up of two entities: -The old house of La Cloutière rehabilitated and enhanced, intended to accommodate exhibition and discussion spaces on the ground floor and on the first floor, as well as offices on the second floor. -A contemporary-style extension to the west of the house which is intended to welcome the public on the ground floor and to install offices upstairs.
Städtebaulicher Kontext
Saint Rémy de Provence is a French commune in the Bouches-du-Rhône department. A tourist and wine-growing town, the city has an important built and natural heritage. La Maison du Parc is a structure located on the edge of the old town of Saint Remy de Provence within the perimeter of many historic buildings classified as Historic Monuments (less than 500 meters). The Cloutière area also testifies to the urban development of the city which has grown after the demolition of the ramparts.

Erhaltungszustand

Erhaltungszustand der Gebäudehülle
It was an old 18th century bourgeois house and its garden, resulting from a larger property of agricultural land, located outside and on the edge of the old city walls. The house is organized in a classic way with a ground floor which was devoted to services, domestic functions, kitchen, laundry room but which also consists of craft premises, linked to the activities of the previous owner. Before the renovation, the house was in poor condition, most of the rooms have been restored.

DENKMALWERT

ERHALTENSWERTE ELEMENTE
The entire building has heritage value with: -Its interior devices: French floors, vaulted rooms, on the ground floor (barrel vaults or rib vaults), wooden floors on the ground floor, French wood floors on the 1st floor. -Its original coatings: stone tiles (RCH) floor tiles, cement tiles (summer lounge). -Its marble fireplaces, decorations, trumeaux above the fireplaces and doors. -Its interior stone stairs. -Its painted decorations in the staircase dating from the beginning of the century, its tapestries and decorations, the cement tiles of the summer living room, its woodwork / paneling .... Wooden doors on the ground floor and upper floors. The craft premises are remarkable, because they have preserved certain elements of their original device, such as the 5 large stone vats of 1 meter by 2.80 meters and the 2 smaller vats, of about 3.5 tonnes tank. Their original uses can only be hypothetical, in relation to the activities of the former owners. They could have been used to treat, degrease, wash, or dye wool, several of the owners trading in wool, or even for the manufacture of vegetable seeds. There are evacuation and compartmentalization devices for certain tanks, as well as the presence of a water tank under its tanks with an old impeller pump. The other hypothesis is that they were used as storage for agricultural products from the land, such as wine or oil.
Denkmalwert und wie er bestimmt wurde
This building is a testament to the architecture of the end of the 18th century and of its evolution during the 19th and early 20th centuries. This batisse shows the adaptations to the uses and the search for comfort of the owners, with for example the creation of a summer lounge on the ground floor of the building.

Ziel der Sanierung

Renovation + Extension
The Maison du Parc project was carried out within the framework of the BDM (Mediterranean Sustainable Buildings) approach "ENERGY TERTIARY BUILDING: Thermal Regulation Low Consumption Building renovation" concerning heating, cooling, ventilation, domestic hot water and lighting. The objective of this renovation was to create a new headquarters for the regional natural park within the old bourgeois house.
Gab es eine Änderung der Nutzung?
This former private bourgeois house has been bought and transformed, it now houses the headquarters of the Alpilles Regional Natural Park. The domestic use of this place has become a professional use.
Was the intervention planned following a step-by-step approach?
The choice of the Cloutière site was made following a call for proposals to the 16 municipalities that make up the Alpilles Natural Park. The town of St Remy was chosen to be the host town for the Maison du Parc, with an 18th century bourgeois house called "la Cloutière". In order to set up this renovation project, several stages were followed: - Programming and diagnostic mission entrusted to CAUE 13 (Architecture and environment and urban planning consultancy) in 2009-2010 and a project management assistance mission at Celsius-Imperium. -Call for application in BOAMP of October 20, 2011 for a negotiated contract for project management –Folder Offer- Negotiation The works took place in stages from 2015 to 2016, following the BDM (Mediterranean Sustainable Building) approach. It is a project management tool developed by Envirobat-BDM.
Gewonnen Erkenntnisse / besondere Erfahrungen
Need to change the project team; project management and external contributors. Indeed, the insulation of the new building in wheat straw compressed in wooden boxes, as insulation was not considered as a common technique for a tertiary and ERP building in R + 2, during the design of the project (despite the publication of the rules straw construction professionals in 2012). This choice also necessitated a change of control office, in order to find a “Technical Controller” who recognized the professional rules of straw construction (released 1 year earlier) and who could validate the technical details.

Was it necessary to get started and understand how the building worked, such as closing the shutters, not opening the window during hot or cold periods. Methodology_used: The eco-rehabilitation and eco-construction approach (extension of the existing building) helps limit the emission of greenhouse gases. Reuse of existing materials and devices on site, reuse, rehabilitation and reinforcement of existing structures (floors, coverings, frame.) Use of bio-sourced materials. (insulating materials based on vegetable fibers, insulating straw for the wooden extension ... coatings from the site or natural like Linoleum.) Use of local wood for covering the extensions: Aleppo pine to develop a local industry.
Water Management

Recovery of rainwater by a buried cistern and by the installation of a network of "water ways" pipes which allow the educational garden to be watered by gravity flow.

Transport and Mobility
